Russia 'secretly working with environmentalists to oppose fracking': http://
But he doesn't need to, that's the point. People are against fracking because it's a terrible terrible idea, not because there's a shadowy conspiracy, and I struggle to understand why they don't get that. Saying it's the ruskies is just dusting of the 1960s objections about hippies and lefties and trotting them out again.
No, he really doesn't. His gas is cheaper and not from your backyard.
It's like the notion that big oil sabotages renewables. They don't need to. They don't invest as much as they should because it's not yet a return on investment for shareholders. Instead they put an f'ing wind turbine on the top of their petrol stations, "look our cash machine is powered by green energy"
... and there will unlikely be a return on investment until the market is disrupted and a new business model developed. Problem is, renewables are essentially free, so it's a little hard to make the significant profits the energy industry has grown fat on. Big energy has little incentive to move that way unless they're forced to, and that won't happen because they can easily afford to buy governments. Now if some plucky tech company manages to make a hyper efficient micro-gen plant that can power your house for free if you buy one of their magic boxes for a few grand, then that'll be a few nails in the coffin.
and the electric car will put the lid on the casket... electric cars decouple the car from oil, and you can generate electricity from anything (especially since they often just need to be trickle charged). This is why Tesla's patent decision is so important, and if I were big oil I'd be very worried.
