The comments apple bashing are entirely missing the point. This is a useful feature and similar things appear in other systems with other clouds. Office, Ubuntu search sending your shit to Amazon etc etc etc. what's needed is to balance functionality with security in a way that you are comfortable with.

Its enabled by default and has an escrow key, that's the problem. If it was opt in, or it was done in such a way that only you could decrypt it (technically more difficult, but not impossible, and we'd still have to verify) I don't think people would have a beef.
Although to be fair they were invented for spying, so I guess it's gone full circle.

This is the so called "handoff" feature to go from working on iOS to OSX or otherwise? What I'm not sure is to what extent it's enabled by default.
Furthermore the info is all encrypted so only apple (and therefore the secret police) can see it.
